Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks split diagnostics between two platforms: DAVIE4 for PACCAR MX/PX engines, and ESA (Electronic Service Analyst) for the cab and chassis electronics. Most shops need both. This hub explains which does what, what each costs, and the adapters that work with both.
PACCAR coverage: engines, models and systems
Our PACCAR diagnostic coverage spans every current platform and the legacy fleets still on the road. The table below maps the engines and vehicle families you can scan, code and program with a dealer-level setup. If your truck is missing, run it through the compatibility checker or ask us on WhatsApp — coverage updates land monthly.
| Platform | Engines / Systems | Model Years | Dealer Software | Required Adapter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MX-13 | PACCAR MX-13 EPA13–EPA27 | 2010–2026 | DAVIE4 | Nexiq USB-Link 3 / VCI-560 |
| MX-11 | PACCAR MX-11 | 2015–2026 | DAVIE4 | Nexiq USB-Link 3 / VCI-560 |
| PX-7 / PX-9 | Cummins-derived mid-range | 2010–2026 | DAVIE4 or Cummins INSITE | INLINE 8 / USB-Link 3 |
| Kenworth models | T680, T880, W990, T800, W900 | 2010–2026 | DAVIE4 + ESA | USB-Link 3 |
| Peterbilt models | 579, 567, 389, 579EV | 2010–2026 | DAVIE4 + ESA | USB-Link 3 |
OEM software vs multi-brand: which PACCAR setup fits your shop
DAVIE4 ($1,450/yr) is the factory engine tool: full bi-directionals, forced regens, injector coding, and programming on MX engines. ESA (~$495/yr) handles the vehicle side — cab controllers, multiplexed switches, instrument clusters and chassis modules. For PX-7/PX-9 you can alternatively use Cummins INSITE, which many Cummins-equipped shops already own.
Shops that only touch PACCAR iron get the most depth per dollar from the OEM package. Mixed fleets usually pair one OEM license with a multi-brand platform — see the OEM vs aftermarket capability breakdown before you spend.
What it costs — real numbers, not “call for price”
A full PACCAR setup — DAVIE4 + ESA + Toughbook + Nexiq USB-Link 3 + cables — runs $5,295 as a pre-configured kit. Software-only with remote install: DAVIE4 $1,450/yr, ESA $495/yr. Renewals stay flat year over year; factor both into the five-year TCO math.

Do I need both DAVIE4 and ESA for a Kenworth or Peterbilt?
For engine work, DAVIE4 alone is enough. For no-start electrical issues, cab functions, instrument clusters or aftertreatment chassis-side faults, you need ESA. Trucks with Cummins ISX engines use INSITE for the engine plus ESA for the chassis — a common combination in mixed KW/Pete fleets.
Can INSITE replace DAVIE4 on PX-7 and PX-9 engines?
Largely yes — PX engines are Cummins B6.7/L9 derivatives and INSITE covers engine-side diagnostics and programming on them. MX-11 and MX-13 are PACCAR's own design and require DAVIE4.
What adapter does DAVIE4 require?
PACCAR certifies RP1210C adapters; the Nexiq USB-Link 3 and the PACCAR VCI-560 both work. DAVIE4 will not run through a J2534 passthru for engine programming — use a certified RP1210 device.
