Cat ET — Electronic Technician Software

One license for every Cat engine on wheels or tracks — truck, excavator, generator or marine. The most versatile OEM platform in our catalog.

Cat ET is unique among OEM tools: a single platform and license covers on-highway truck engines, the entire construction line, industrial power and marine. For any operation mixing trucks and yellow iron, ET is the highest-leverage purchase in diagnostics.

What Cat ET can do

  • Full diagnostics across Cat truck engines (C7–C18, 3406E) and all equipment product families.
  • ECM flash programming and calibration file management.
  • Injector coding and trim-file programming.
  • Service-report generation — the documentation equipment buyers and fleets demand.
  • Parameter configuration including machine-specific settings impossible in generic tools.

System requirements & supported adapters

Windows 10/11 Pro, 16GB RAM recommended, and the Communication Adapter 3 (538-5051) — CA2 reaches pre-2007 engines for diagnostics but cannot program newer machines. Licensing ties to product serial numbers; we configure this during install.

Installation: DIY vs pre-configured

ET installs are straightforward until serial-number licensing — the step where DIY buyers most often misconfigure coverage. Remote install is included; equipment-heavy fleets should have their serial list ready.

Free remote install is included with every software-only order — a technician handles activation with you on a screen-share.

Renewal cost and what happens if it lapses

$1,250/yr renewal keeps all product families current. Lapsed ET licenses stop connecting to newer machines first — legacy coverage persists longest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cat ET cover on-highway truck engines?

Yes — C7 through C18 and the 3406E legacy line, with full programming capability. Cat left the truck market after 2010 but ET supports those engines fully.

ET vs a multi-brand tool like Jaltest for equipment?

Jaltest covers Cat equipment well for diagnostics. For programming, calibration files and the newest machines, ET wins. Equipment-focused shops typically run both — see the off-highway hub.

What is Cat SIS and do I need it?

SIS is the parts and service-information system — wiring diagrams, disassembly procedures, part numbers. If you do your own repairs rather than just diagnostics, the ET + SIS bundle is the correct buy.
